Activists held banners including one saying “social housing, not social cleansing” and another daubed with “homes for people, not for profit".
Protesters also chanted at people entering the event, and some people were pictured on social media apparently flinging mud at the building.

As part of the #BlockBoris campaign, protesters were attempting to stop the Mayor of London entering the event where he was due to give a speech.
Andy Slaughter, Labour MP for Hammersmith, who attended the demonstration, tweeted: “Lively demo at the #stopMIPIM #BlockBoris rally in Olympia. Tell the Tories’ favourite developers they’re not welcome.”

Mr Slaughter also claimed that fellow Labour MP John McDonnell, as well as Hammersmith and Fulham council leader, Stephen Cowan, were present.
Police were eventually forced to bring down metal shutters across the entrance, although the event remained open.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "Police are aware of a protest taking place outside Olympia today.
"Officers are in attendance. One person has been arrested on suspicion of common assault. A police presence remains at the scene."
A spokesman for MIPIM UK said the event remained open throughout.
"We aware of the presence of the Radical Housing Network and its supporters outside MIPIM UK," the spokesman said.
"One of MIPIM UK's key aims is to promote the regeneration of towns and cities across Britain.
"By highlighting key issues surrounding urban regeneration, green building, the future of the high street and the workplace, MIPIM UK is playing a key role in facilitating debate."
