West Middlesex Hospital misses A&E target for two weeks running

Nearly eight per cent of patients had to wait more than four hours in the hospital's emergency ward last week, and there were long waits in the rest of the country too

Patients are waiting too long at West Middlesex Hospital's A&E department, latest figures show.
It has missed the government's 95 per cent target for patients to be treated, admitted or discharged within four hours for the last two weeks running.
Last week, only 91.9 per cent of patients had to wait less than the target time in the emergency ward of the hospital, in Twickenham Road, Isleworth.
The Hillingdon Hospitals also dipped below the government target, with 92.2 per cent of patients seen in time, according to statistics from NHS England.
A spokeswoman for West Middlesex Hospital said patients often had to undergo various tests and observation before the best course of action could be decided. She said its priority was always the provision of safe and high quality care.
"We have a robust winter plan in place and work closely with partner organisations including the London Ambulance Service and other acute trusts to ensure we maintain service resilience even at the very busiest times," she added.
"Over the past few years we have been making a number of improvements to emergency and unscheduled care at our hospital and this work is ongoing. Our aim is to ensure that all our patients receive the best possible care."
Across England, the 95 per cent target was missed for the ninth week running - the longest streak since last April's A&E crisis. Last week, only 93.5 per cent of patients were seen on time.
The worst performing trust in England was Cambridge University Hospitals, where nearly a third of patients waited more than four hours last week.
More than a fifth of patients waited more than four hours at Birmingham Children's Hospital and more than 15 per cent waited too long at The Princess Alexandra, Hull and East Yorkshire and Sherwood Forest hospitals.
