The trust, which is responsible for Central Middlesex Hospital, Ealing Hospital, Northwick Park and St Mark’s Hospital has consistently missed its A&E target waiting times over the last three months.
New figures released show London North West Healthcare NHS Trust to be the worst in England for ‘type 1’ major A&E department waiting time targets.
The trust, which is responsible for Central Middlesex Hospital, Ealing Hospital, Northwick Park and St Mark’s Hospital has consistently missed its A&E target waiting times over the last three months.
The latest NHS England figures showed that in the last 13 weeks 68 per cent of ‘type 1’ patients were seen within the four hour target, falling woefully short of the 95 per cent national target.
London North West Healthcare NHS Trust has consistently missed this target with 87 per cent of all patients being seen within the four-hour target over the last 13 weeks.
And it looks like the situation is not set to improve with the first set of weekly figures issued this year showing that for ‘type 1’ patients, just 62 per cent were seen in the waiting time target and 85 per cent of all patients were seen within four hours.
These figures clearly show that waiting times at the trust for ‘type 1’ major A&E departments are the worst in the country following the closure of Central Middlesex and Hammersmith A&Es in September 2014.
Director of operations Tina Benson said: “We know that bed capacity remains an important challenge for the Trust and in December we opened 44 new beds and an additional 66 new beds are planned for this year. We are also working to improve the speed and flow of patients from the A&E departments to our wards, out to community health services and, where it is safe to do so, back to their own homes.”
Dr Rupa Huq, Labour’s prospective parliamentary candidate for Ealing and Acton Central, said of the revelations: “In Ealing and Acton we saw the price of a Tory-run NHS long before these figures were released. The Tories and Lib Dems are destroying our NHS. I’ve lived here for over 40 years now and I can’t remember a time when so many people talked to me about their fears for our health service and social care in later life.
“As a mum I’ve first-hand experience of our health service and with my parents needing adult social care I understand the fear that threats to our local NHS services can bring. Local residents face a big choice in the election this year.”
Ealing and Acton MP Angie Bray said: “Regrettably winter is always a difficult time of year for the NHS and London is under pressure like everywhere else.
"The proposed changes to health services in North West London are not a ‘Tory plan’ – they are a local NHS plan. The Conservative Health Secretary intervened to insist the A&E units at Charing Cross and Ealing Hospitals must stay open as A&Es. The local NHS has now confirmed they will for the long term.
“The Conservatives are investing nearly £13billion of new money in the NHS over this Parliament. And the NHS now has 9,000 more doctors and 3,300 more nurses since 2010. Over a million more people are seen in A&Es each year.
“This winter, the Government has provided a further £700 million to help hospitals cope with seasonal pressures. And to ensure integrated health and social care the Government is investing £3.8 billion in the Better Care Fund starting this April.”
