NHS bureaucrats were probably not best pleased with their "public engagement" event over the cuts & closures plan known as Sustainabilty and Transformation Plan (STP) in Hammersmith this week. In contrast SOH was delighted to see a room packed not with a passive audience ready to join workshops about the best way to cut services but with a well informed group challenging the whole finance driven basis of the STP. Stephen Cowan H&F Council leader was warmly applauding for taking the public position (along with Ealing) of opposing the STP. In an acknowledgement of the STPs failure to "engage" with the public the chief executive of Imperial NHS Trust has asked to meet SOH. During the meeting Dr Spicer of H&F Clinical Commissioning Group said it was very unlikely that numbers of local GPs would increase - underlining the unsustainability of plans to close acute services without boosting general practice staffing.
